5 MUST-HAVES FOR SAFE SOLO TRAVEL

Safety is paramount when embarking on solo travel adventures. Whether you're exploring a bustling city or hiking in remote wilderness, being prepared can make all the difference. Essentials we all commonly think about when preparing to set out on a trip are things such as a well-researched itinerary, a reliable source of communication, copies of important documents like passports, visas and emergency contacts; and even some of the non-tangible security measures such as basic self-defense knowledge, trusting your instincts, and staying aware of your surroundings. But, if you want to take the next step in ensuring your safety and knowing you are protected, then I've listed some of my favorite travel safety must-haves that are both stylish & petite [luggage space is major amirite]!

#1 - Protect Yourself From EMF

When planning a trip, especially for something exciting like a tropical vacation or romantic getaway, your main thoughts are likely "Just get me there!". Most safety concerns when traveling revolve around the destination: is the hotel safe? is the country safe? are there pickpockets? is there crime? But we rarely think about hazards involved with the actual travel itself, and we think even less about those that are hazardous to our health.

On a small scale, scientific research proves our cell phones emit electromagnetic field radiation through wifi & 5G, whether you're using it or not. You can neutralize up to 99% of EMF radiation with a simple gold sticker on your phone. This sticker is layered with 24k gold, minerals, & negative ions. Trés chic, if you ask me. On a larger scale, we are at an increased risk of EMF radiation when flying. Not only are we exposed to EMF from all the electronics on board, but we're exposed to higher cosmic radiation in the air than on the ground, and not to mention the scanning process of airport security before you even get on the plane. So how do you protect yourself from such intense exposure? EMF protective clothing. They have tank tops, shawls for mom & baby and maternity, pant suits, etc. If you don't want to spoil your airport outfit, you'll need the ever classy black blanket, which can double as a shawl. It's called fashion. Look it up.

#2 - Be Your Own Security

One of the only downsides of solo-travel is that nobody has your back. Instead of relying on a stranger, rely on yourself and be prepared. The best way to be prepared is prevention. I've found some of the easiest and smallest little alarm systems that you can stick in your luggage without taking up space. One to carry on your person, and one to prevent a break-in wherever you're staying.

The BIRDIE personal alarm system was made by women for women. And you can tell by their color options. Keep it on your person when walking home at night, or even better, all the time. With a simple pull of the top pin to activate a LOUD siren & strobe light, nobody will mess with you. Honestly, a must-have regardless of whether you're traveling or in your own town.

The BIRDIE can protect you when you're awake and alert, but who's going to protect you when you sleep? Lewis N Clark have a compact door alarm that is like a portable home security system. It can be used in any bedroom, apartment, hotel or dorm door and will sound a LOUD alarm if that door is opened from the outside. I don't know about you but both of these small devices would provide big peace of mind when traveling alone.

#3 - Prevent Identity Theft

Identity theft is way more common than we think, especially in foreign countries. There are ways to prevent it and this is one of them: an RFID-blocking travel wallet/passport holder. Radio Frequency Identification is wireless communication that hackers and thieves use to steal your personal information such as card numbers. This classy black leather case will block signals that may be trying to scan the contents inside. Another layer of security to prevent having to worry about such a thing.

#4 - Babysit Your Belongings

Soaking up the sun but don't want to trust a stranger to watch your phone & wallet while you swim in the ocean for as long as you want? HOW CUTE is this little lock box [comes in cool colors like navy, evergreen & gold]. I was so excited to find this especially because it can be great when staying at hostels which is my go-to when I'm backpacking multiple countries. It's actually lightweight and made for both indoor & outdoor use. Comes with a key or 3 digit code. Easy and worth it!

#5 - Fingerprint Access Only

Having a lock for your luggage, hostel, etc. is always a great idea. But if you're like me, you'd just as much rather not use one than line up the number scroll seventeen times just to open it--especially after a night out. I also refuse to type in a password on my MacBook they are all fingerprint access only so you can imagine why I love this matte white fingerprint padlock. Adorable. Easy. Safe.

Better Safe Than Sorry

At the end of the day, prevention is key. Give your parents and friends peace of mind knowing you've taken the steps to ensure your safety so you can enjoy the thrill of new countries & new places without ending up in situations no one wants to be in. After all, it's our duty as solo-travelers to prove to our friends and family that it is safe and that not all the international solo travel stereotypes are real [but what's a little extra help from the products above].
